So much is known about all the UFC 1 guys but the one guy from UFC 1 I don't know anything about is Trent Jenkins. Google search and wiki did not help. So... what is his background, how did he become interested in it/hear about it, etc...

Being that he was in the first fight in UFC history I want to know about the guy.

Anyone know?

Jason DeLucia I knew since he was 15 or so. Invented MMA around here pretty much - used to go from gym to gym offering challenge fights and would take a side bet up to a grand or whatever.

Jenkins was from Colo, maybe had something to do with Sven Bean's guys, I forget. He had skills.

Thats interesting DeLucia did challenges outside the Gracie Challenge.

Oh wow, you worked with him for his post-UFC fights?

As I recall some Bas Rutten Invitational fights and a Rings fight in Orem Utah, I remember UFC champ Maurice Smith being in the opponent's corner. There maybe more. Too long ago.

Trent came from a karate background and trained some with Denver martial arts legend Clarence Thatch (father of UFC fighter Brandon Thatch.

I forget the number, he was like 23-0 or something. He would go gym to gym in Mass and nearby states respectfully asking for gym fights, and respectfully offering a side bet. Then he went to Torrance and got handled. He is not given nearly the credit he deserves in New England. He def goes his own way, which a lot of people don't find ingratiating.

I spoke with Delucia a few times times when he fought for Pancrase.  He was a unique individual.
