UFC 257: Poirier vs. McGregor 2 will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2021 at the Etihad Arena on Fight Island, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the league has been holding official weigh-ins and then faceoffs, but no ceremonial weigh-ins. In a return to a degree of normalcy, this event will have both official and ceremonial weigh-ins. Both will stream live on The UnderGround, on Friday, January 23.

Former champ champ Conor McGregor hasn’t fought since his 40 second KO of Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 246 on January 18, 2020. Opponent Dustin Poirier too has not been in the Octagon much lately. His last fight was a decision win over Dan Hooker at UFC on ESPN 12 on June 27, 2020; prior to that, he lost a title fight vs. lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242 on September 7, 2019.

The co-main features the UFC debut of three-time Bellator MMA champion Michael Chandler, vs. the #6 ranked Dan Hooker. With a spectacular win, Chandler put himself potentially in line for a title shot.

I guess I’ll kick it off by being the asshole. Two non-title WMMA fights on the main card of a major PPV is less than ideal. Calderwood v. Eye, while serviceable, is still not awesome.

I cannot say last year was entirely negative to me. There were positive sides as well. The pandemic opened some new opportunities to me. UG updates: Zero.

 

Breaking: Frevola vs. Azaitar off main card. Azaitar withdrew for some reason after Frevola made weight.

Main Card down to 4 fights. Will they move another chick fight to the main card because hey, let's face it, this is a Conor fight and 4 who-gives-a-fuck other fights that 1+ million will buy because they simply can't live another moment without seeing it live.

Sara McMann (135) vs. Julianna Pena (136) made weight. Three chick fights on main card? Do it, Dana! Rub everyone's nose in it!

The second fight to go kaput was the formerly featured prelim that was to pit Arman Tsarukyan against Nasrat Haqparast at lightweight.

Tsarukyan made it to the scale, but came in three pounds over the 156 lb limit. He was given an hour to shed the offending pounds. However, before that could happen his fight was called off after Haqparast failed to show up within the three hour time window.

This could end up being one of the greatest UFC stories ever!  In 20 years there will be trivia questions about this.

Well, who knows but this could be the best story of the weekend if the fights turn out lame.

Crawled over 4 balconies like it's a James Bond scene? What the hell is in the bag??!! I need to know what is in the bag! It can't just be something like diuretics or PEDs since the fighter would just get busted for that via drug testing and you would have thought the team would have just had someone in the bubble bring them to Abu Dhabi. Was it a Big Mac? Did he get undeniable munchies while playing video games? Was it the web address to an untraceable streaming site? Was he doing a last-minute delivery of a How To Sidestep VHS video? We need to know!!!
