Ryan Hall had to wait far longer than he wanted to fight again in between his 2016 victory over Gray Maynard and his submission of the year-worthy heel hook win over former two-division champion BJ Penn last month. Before their UFC 232 engagement, 'The Wizard' insists that he accepted multiple fights over the past two years before having an opponent in Penn stick, and Hall doesn’t want another long layoff.
"I’d like to get back in and fight as soon as is reasonably possible,” he tells us. "I’d like to fight as soon as I can, really, as soon as I get offered an opponent who excites me and is another serious challenge. I hope can only hope that things will materialize. I’m not interested in a long absence or break from competition, but will continue to search only for the things that I got into this for at the outset.”
The TUF 22 champion went into his fight with Penn extolling the skills, bravery, and legacy of the Hawaiian. After surviving a battle against “The Prodigy,” Hall is still thankful and humble.
"We didn’t get a chance to exchange words after the fight,” he laments. "But I do want to just say that it was an honor to have the opportunity to compete with BJ Penn - a true all-time great and living legend, someone for whom I have so much respect and someone who I’ve strived to model myself after in many ways."
