Not an up and comer, but the “Machida era” was short lived.
If it wasn't for Shogun he may well have held the belt until Jon Jones got there.
Which was like a month later
Fuck it was, wasnt it. Time flies.
Todd Duffee was the “new breed of heavyweight”
He had some kind of health condition that really jacked him up bad for a while, I dont remember what the deal was there.
The guy sure could move for a HW tho.
Gilbert Yvel? Remember he was supposed to be super scary because he had tattoos of dudes fighting.
Recently......Asked. Of all time....Bobby Lashley
He was on TUF and Zuffa was literally saying he was the next GSP or Silva.
First one that came to mind. Was going to be a two div champ....
Hype trains don't win and defend titles. They don't go 9-0 at the highest levels of the WEC and UFC after going 23-0 in regional shows.
He won the title and defended several times.
Reached the top of the mountain after being undefeated for years.... then he fell off the fucking mountain and into the abyss.
Still, not a hype train at all.
Bart Vale was the original NHB hype train!
Boxing and karate black belts are the original hype arts! Prior to NHB, pro boxers and karate black belts were credited with being impossible to beat in a street fight between two men without weapons.
On a SideNote -forrestfan - Aaron Pico
Pico is still getting better and better. I think he is going to have a very good career and could win a Bellator or UFC title before he is done.
At worst, he will challenge for a Bellator title before he retires.
Belfort and Sokodjou are the first that enter my mind. Belfort had an amazing career but had it tough after his first amazing wins, Sokodjou looked like an absolute monster after appearing out of nowhere and demolishing two very good fighters.
Uriah hall looked like a killer then he looked like he lost the desire to pull the trigger.
Vera and Uriah Hall
Jason Reinhardt seemed to hit the wall in the UFC. I think he was undefeated prior to that.
That's a name that came to my mind too. I was on that hype train.
I was gonna post Grispi.
I'd completely forgotten about Hathaway. Good call. I think he had stomach/digestive issues if I'm not mistaken. Similar to Mike Swick
Din Thomas was a juggernaut until penn
Uriah hall was supposed to be the next anderson after that vicious spin kick ko on tuf
Hard not to mention Askren in this conversation
sanguine cynic - Kimbo Slice losing to Seth Petruzelli
which was also the downfall of elite XC so double whammy there, good call
