Roosevelt is by far the greatest modern president. He is chiefly responsible for the diamond age of capitalism, which he achieved by injecting a little bit of socialism into a capitalist society, to ensure that it worked for the greatest number of people, not just the robber barons.
Now, he wasn't the only president that did it, but he was the last big one to do it. Before that injection of socialism in the early 20th century, Capitalism was as bad as any economic system before it. It was indistinguishable from fuedalism in how badly it crushed everyone but the elite, the only difference was, instead of a hereditary aristocrasy that sat on top, you had a hereditary wealthy class that sat on top. 7 Day work weeks, children 8-12 year olds working 7 days a week 16 hours a day. No job security, squalid living conditions, zero benefits, hazardous work, barely any pay.
All the shit people take for granted about capitalism today, like a standard 40 hour 5 day work week, health benefits, child labor laws etc, etc, etc, etc, ALL OF IT CAME FROM SOCIALISM. Contrary to dumb ass undeducated Americans, socialism != (that means does not equal, dipshits) communism or authoritarianism, just like conservatism does not equal fascism.
