It seems to be the norm that coaches holding mitts throw them out towards the fighter's fists as the fighter's hitting them.
What's the rationale behind this? It doesn't appear to mimic a real fighting scenario at all, and you even see fighters throwing a cross and making contact when their elbow is still around 90º.
I understand the coach meeting the strike a little to keep his hands in place and to give the fighter a harder point of contact, but it always seems very exaggerated.
Please enlighten me.
