MMA is one of the few sports in the modern world where accusations of pre-determined outcomes or “fixes” as they are known, are rarely thrown around.

In the United States, the sport has kept a mostly squeaky clean image over the years when it comes to fix allegations. This in part is down to the sport itself. MMA fights are extremely hard to fake as it is a full contact sport where the goal is to basically beat up your opponent the best you can.

To fake getting knocked out or submitted would be extremely hard to pull off, and with the hard-core knowledgeable fan base MMA has, it would be virtually impossible to go unnoticed.

The sport has also been benefited by the way the promotions are run. Organisations such as the UFC have one owner, one president, and one matchmaker. This makes outside influence from dodgy managers, and whoever else wants to alter proceedings, very difficult.

In Japan however the story is very different. Pride FC was Japan's, and one of the worlds premier MMA organisations, it also ran very different to the American way. Fighters were encouraged to take steroids, freak-show fights were common place and promoters liked to cater to the Japanese market. This meant that "allegedly" many fighters were paid to throw fights in order to increase their opponents star power.

Japan may have the bigger reputation for fixing fights in the MMA world, and the US may have a mostly squeaky clean image. This however doesn't mean the rare instances do not happen. In this video we feature 5 fights that are notorious for suspected fixing allegations.

This obviously can not be proven and we most likely will never know the truth, we are not going on record claiming they are 100% fixed, but they certainly cause us and MMA fans around the world to scratch their heads with suspicion.
