Donovan Beard relishing chance to face Bo Nickal: 'When I prove you wrong, I get to rub it in your face'

Beard knows he's being counted out at Dana White's Contender Series 56 but believes he can shock the world on September 27.

Donovan Beard knows not many are giving him even the slightest of chances of pulling off an upset of super prospect Bo Nickal when the two clash at Dana White's Contender Series 56 on Sept. 27. Beard doesn't care.

In fact, Beard (7-1) actually volunteered himself for the assignment when he head Nickal (2-0) was fighting for a second time on the show. Why? He likes putting himself in situations where others don't expect him to prevail.

"I'm used to the pressure of other folks feeling like I'm the underdog and the one that's going to be counted out, the one that's going to lose," Beard said. "I love that. I absolutely love it because when I prove you wrong, I get to rub it in your face."

Nickal, of course, is a vaunted prospect with an incredibly decorated collegiate wrestling background and a drive to succeed in MMA. His first two professional wins have come in a combined 95 seconds. But Beard is using to pairing himself with the toughest challenges available and is excited to see what he can do with this assignment.

"We're going to find out September 27 what he's talking about when that cage door gets locked," Beard said.
