Brave 9: The Kingdom of Champions lost one of its championship fights as Featherweight challenger Lucas 'Mineiro' Martins fell ill during his weight cut and is unable to fight champion Elias "Smile" Boudegzdame on the show's co-main event. Without the 66 kg. title fight, the groundbreaking event, set for Friday, November 17th, goes on with two other championship bouts as Bantamweights Gurdarshan Mangat and Stephen Loman face each other for the inaugural divisional belt and Alejandro "Pato" Martínez squares off against Ottman "Bulldozer" Azaitar for the first-ever Lightweight Brave world title.
"Announcement: for everyone waiting for my fight tomorrow, I'm announcing that it will not happen," wrote Martins on his social network. "Unfortunately, I had a bad few hours before the weigh-in with only 2 kilos left to make the weight. I have more than 30 fights and I have always made my commitment to the scale, I already fought at 61 kilos, but this time I found my limit. I'm not a fussy person, but this time my body was no longer responding. I was out of breath, feeling pain all over my body, and I also felt dizzy. Those were some of the reasons that made me and my team decide to stop the weight cut because I could no longer see anything in front of me."
"Mineiro" also apologized to his fans, Brave Combat Federation, and his opponent, while vowing to fight for the Brave world title in another opportunity.
"I apologize to everyone involved with Brave, president Mohammad Shahid, His Highness Sheikh Khalid and also to my opponent Elias Boudegzdame, who kept his word and made weight," he wrote. "This fight won't happen but we'll reschedule it and you guys can be sure that I'll be there to honor my commitments as I always have."
With Mineiro's withdrawal, the Bantamweight clash between Felipe Efrain and Nawras Abzakh will now be a part of the main card.
