Nassau County declares Monday as 'Aljamain Sterling Day' to honor UFC champ

County Executive Bruce Blakeman and Uniondale High School to honor 'Funk Master.'

UNIONDALE, N.Y. - Nassau County Executive Bruce A. Blakeman will join Uniondale High School officials, students, elected officials, coaches and members of the community to honor UFC bantamweight champion and Uniondale native Aljamain Sterling with a motorcade and rally.

The County Executive will proclaim May 23 "Aljamain Sterling Day" in Nassau County.

After a 13-month absence from the sport, 32-year-old Nassau resident Sterling recently made a triumphant return against rival Petr Yan in their bantamweight unification title fight at April's UFC 273.

Residents are encouraged to line the streets for the motorcade, which begin at 11:30 a.m. ET local time, and join at the high school for the rally, which starts at noon ET local time.
