ONE Championship will be looking to end 2021 in a major way with ONE X, a Dec. 5 event that will not only feature two title fights, but will include a Johnson vs Rodtang cross-sport special rules headliner.

ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong appeared on Wednesday’s edition of The MMA Hour and announced the super fight between the promotion’s resident Muay Thai superstar, and flyweight champion, Rodtang Jitmuangnon and mixed martial arts flyweight Grand Prix winner, and UFC legend, Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson.

Johnson vs Rodtang cross-sport super-fight booked for ONE X on Dec. 5

The colossal clash of greats from their sports will take place under a unique set of rules made especially for the matchup. Both will sport four-ounce gloves, the bout will be four three-minute rounds, and alternate between Muay Thai and MMA rules, starting with Muay Thai in the opening round.

The 24-year-old “Iron Man” is actually set to compete next month at ONE: First Strike in a kickboxing bout against Daniel Puertas. He has won three straight under the ONE Championship banner, with his most recent victory coming in April at ONE on TNT I. As he successfully defended his title by way of unanimous decision over Daniel Williams.

Johnson competed on that same night, however, he came up short in a bid for the promotion’s flyweight MMA title. Losing to incumbent champion Adriano Moraes by knockout in the second round. It was only his second defeat in the last nine years, and the MMA GOAT’s first KO loss ever. Before that, he had won three straight en route to the flyweight tournament title.

Fernandes vs Lineker and Le vs Tonon also annoucned for ONE X

Also announced during the interview were two championship bouts that will also be on the December card in Singapore.

After nearly two years away from the sport, bantamweight champion Bibiano Fernandes will make his long-awaited return to the cage to defend his thrown against UFC veteran John Lineker. The match-up has long been hoped for since Lineker joined the promotion in June 2019.

“Hands of Stone” is on a three-fight win streak since joining the ONE, and has scored knockout finishes in his last two fights. The first of which came against former division king Kevin Belingon.

Fernandes last fought in October 2019 when he defended his title against Belingon in a rematch to their fight eight months earlier, which ended in controversy after the Filipino landed illegal elbows to the back of Fernandes’ head.

The other title bout on the card will be a long-expected featherweight matchup between new champion Thanh Le and Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Garry Tonon. This will be Le’s first title defense after winning the gold over long-time champion Martin Nguyen last October. The bout will be Tonon’s first championship opportunity after winning all six of his MMA bouts under the ONE banner.

MixedMartialArts.com also spoke with Sityodtong earlier this week about plans for the fighters in these new bookings, as well as the latest on the promotion’s discussions for a new US TV deal and their eventual debut in the US.
