While she certainly would have preferred to walk away with the UFC women's flyweight title, Taila Santos can take some solace in knowing she earned the respect of MMA fans around the world for her latest performance.

Santos (19-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) pushed dominant reigning champion Valentina Shevchenko (23-3 MMA, 12-2 UFC) to her absolute limit in a five-round affair at this past weekend's UFC 275 event in Singapore. Ahead on the judges' cards after three rounds, a broken orbital suffered in an inadvertent clash of heads certainly factored into Shevchenko claiming the final two rounds on the card and taking home a split-decision win and retaining the title.

Despite the result, Santos' efforts were undeniable, and she actually moved up two slots to the No. 2 position in the women's flyweight division in the latest official UFC rankings. Santos also debuted on the women's pound-for-pound list at No. 14.
