UFC signee Blake Bilder just fine with continued underdog role: 'It's cool to be able to prove all the people wrong'

The former CFFC champ wasn't favored to score a UFC deal at Dana White's Contender Series but did exactly that with a first-round submission win.

Blake Bilder knows all about being counted out – he's dealt with it his entire life, both in and out of the cage.

Most recently, Bilder (7-0-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) was the underdog in his August clash with Alex Morgan at Dana White's Contender Series, but the undefeated 32-year-old secured a first-round submission win and a UFC contract, as well.

"The Animal" said he tuned out the doubters ahead of the performance but believes it might be time for people to start realizing what he brings to the table.

"Yeah, put some respect on my name, like Birdman," Bilder joked with MMA Underground. "I'm always the underdog, so it's nothing new at this point, you know? So for me, I believe in myself and and I just have to keep showing people and keep showing people and keep showing people.

"Last night, I was going and listening to people's bets, and, man, some of these guys are pretty good at predicting, and then I heard some guys, 'Oh, we're going to have to go with Alex Morgan because da, da, da, da, da.' It's cool to, like, hear people say points of view ,and it's cool to like to to be able to prove all the people wrong. You know, it's fun for me. I've been doing it my whole life."
