Moldovan heavyweight Alexandr "King Kong" Romanov entered the UFC with a 10-0 record, all inside the distance, and all but two ending in Round 1. At UFC on ESPN+ 35, Romanov made his big league debut, vs. Roque Martinez, and it didn't go the distance.
He talked about past, present, and future at the post-fight press conference.
“I have 20 years of free wrestling and grappling," he said. "And like you saw, it was too easy to get him down.”
“Now I’ll celebrate with my team here in Vegas, but after this, I’ll go home and celebrate with my family because it’s been a long time since I’ve been home. I haven’t seen my children and I want to stay at least a week or two with them. I want to send a message to my family, my friends, my team and my fans: Thank you very much for your time, for what you give me, and I’m very happy to get to do what I do.”
“I want to say to everyone in the heavyweight that I’m here. I want to go for everyone. I feel very good, I’m fit and ready for my next fight. It doesn’t matter if it’s tomorrow or next Saturday – I’m ready. This wasn’t my first fight – it was my debut just in the UFC. I’m a very experienced fighter and I feel very well.”
