In 2016, middleweight Phil "Megatron" Hawes entered TUF 23 with a 3-0 score, but lost a decision in his reality show debut. He went 1-1 in the WSoF, earning a spot on Dana White's Contender Series 2017, but lost via head kick KO in Round 2 to Julian Marquez. Hawes bounced back with a win at Bellator 222, and then signed with BRAVE Combat Federation.

Hawes earned two huge wins in BRAVE, a Round 1 submission in the co-main event of BRAVE 30 in Hyderabad, India, and a thundering Round 2 KO at BRAVE 34 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. And then Megatron was back on Dana White's Contender Series for a second time.

There' on Tuesday Hawes destroyed 10-4 Khadzhimurat Bestaev with a big right in just 78 seconds:

Hawes talked about it at the post-fight press conference.

“It’s awesome to get a contract, but I don’t want to get too excited,” said Hawes. "I came to this sport to be a world champion, and that’s what I’m looking to do.”

“[I’d like to fight] as soon as possible. The one thing I want to do is I want to make sure I’m getting better in my time off, whatever it is. It could be three, four weeks, I just want to make sure I’m better than what you saw tonight.”
