Marc Diakiese wanted release, before win
“After the last fight, I wanted to get released, because I felt I’m young and learning, but I’m getting beat by mistakes. I had a lot of doubters, like, yeah after this, he’s out, so it’s nice to get this win out of the way. I’m just going to be a lot smarter now, not just taking fight after fight. I’ll take my time and see what’s next.” h/t MMAjunkie
Danny Roberts concedes he audibly indicated pain
Verbal Tapout: When a contestant verbally announces to the referee that he or she does not wish to continue or makes audible sounds such as screams indicating pain or discomfort. Danny Roberts was in a Claudio Silva armbar and yelled out; referee Kevin Sataki moved in to stop the fight, but by the time he got there, Roberts had escaped. Silva said it was legit: "The referee told me - 'Verbal Tap'. If somebody shouts when you have the submission on, it's a verbal tap. And that's what he did, he shouted twice." Roberts conceded he audibly indicated pain, but did not agree with the stoppage: "Yah, I might have made noise, I might have grunted, it hurt. But I was ready to carry on to the bitter end. We hadn't finished, I wasn't done. I'm just gutted." Moral of the story - don't yell when caught in a sub or the ref will stop it, as he's supposed to.
Masvidal explains brawl with Edwards
”I’m doing my interview and this hooligan comes by saying some stuff, like ‘July, get your ass kicked in July, July!’ I go ‘Maybe bro, whatever, because maybe I wanna kick your ass in April. Maybe I don’t wanna wait until July. Maybe I don’t want to fight you in a prize ring because you’re not worth the training camp, I’ll just fight you here because you’re a scrub.’ So I tell him to just say it to my face like a man. You’re saying it and walking away? We’re both men, and as I’m walking to him I got my hands behind my back to signal to him that I’m not looking for problems. But he put his hands up like this and he walks towards me. Well ... where I’m from if you do that you’re going to punch me in the face and that’s not going to happen. You are what you are, you’re just a loser in life, man. You’re not going to get a hit off on me. So I had to give him the three piece with the soda and then just glide out of there, you know? And then some of his friends tried to sucker punch me, those guys did a big mistake.” h/t MMA Mania • Watch ESPN Interview

Tom Breese: I feel like a ‘cardio machine’ without ‘ridiculous’ cuts to 170
“I was fighting at welterweight from a very young age, the cuts got tougher and I just decided to fight healthy. It’s crazy the amount of benefits that I feel from it. I don’t even have to cut any weight to be honest. I feel so much stronger. Even before the fight, when I was warming up, you always have a bit of nerves when you’re warming up that make you feel sluggish, but I just felt so sharp warming up. I felt like I could’ve warmed up all day. I didn’t have that tiredness and that gaunt kind of feeling in my stomach. I walk around at about 90 kilos so it drops down a little bit. In the middle of camp I’m around 88 kilos . I’m very low body fat at that stage because I’m a very tall guy. For me to lose four more kilos [nine pounds] to get to middleweight, it’s very easy with the training, it just comes naturally. Compare that to draining my body down to 77 kilos . It was ridiculous what I was doing.” h/t MMA Fighting • Listen to Eurobash podcast (42:00 mark)
John Brewin dedicates Brave 22 victory to homeland after Christchurch massacre
New Zealand's John 'Trouble' Brewin fought Cian Cowley at Brave 22 cage just hours after an attack took place in two mosques in his home country. He almost pulled out, but soldiered through and ended up with his hand raised for the third time inside the Brave cage. "I walked down with this flag. I know the strength of the people of New Zealand. This is a dark day in our country and I never imagined the size of the hatred in such a beautiful place. We will pull through this dark time. I have to thank my opponent. If it wasn't for Cian Cowley I would probably pull out. I made the walk because it was him. He gave me the opportunity to face him and I'm thankful for that."
Nova Scotia AC allowed to retain revenue instead of sending to general fund
The Nova Scotia government announced changes to the Boxing Authority Act on March 1 that will modernize financial oversight and align practices with the Nova Scotia Boxing Authority. The changes will allow any generated revenue to be invested in programming that fits within the authority's mandate such as safety in combat sports. The act currently requires all revenue by the authority to flow directly to the province. The authority will also be able to choose its own auditor on an annual basis. Currently, there is a requirement for the auditor general to audit the authority.
Tony Ferguson's wife releases statement on restraining order
When news broke that Tony Ferguson's wife Cristina had filed for a restraining order, some assumed that there must have been violence against her. There was not. The fighter is, however, behaving erratically. Ms. Ferguson's attorney Jeffrey L. Heath issued a statement on her behalf: "Tony Ferguson is a good husband and good father to our son. The current legal proceedings are a part of a process to ensure that Tony will receive the help necessary to continue being the best possible, as well as to pursue his passion and career as a UFC champion fighter. All positive well wishes are sincerely appreciated and I hope our privacy will be respected." h/t ESPN
Jojo Calderwood: Dana White said to be ready for UFC 238 title shot, just in case
Joanne Calderwood fights Katlyn Chookagian at UFC 238 on June 8; Valentina Shevchenko defends her flyweight belt vs. Jessica Eye in the co-main, and UFC president Dana White says Jojo should prepare for the possibility that she steps in: “I saw Dana at the PI and he told me that I should be ready, and I said, ‘I’m already ready.’ And I’m going to be hitting that weight – 125, championship weight – and just be training for a five-round fight. Because you just never know, especially in this sport – it’s such a crazy one. So I’m definitely going to be ready. In any fight, you could face the opponent changing the week of or even the day before. So I think it’s good to always have your eye on your other opponents, especially people that are on your card.” h/t MMAjunkie

Jorge Masvidal tiring of MMA trash talk culture
Jorge Masvidal and Darren Till are master trash talkers but kept it pretty civil ahead their fight Saturday night at UFC London: “I could talk if I wanted to, but what am I going to say? ‘Oh, you’re a punk,’ and then he calls my mom names? It’s f@$%ing childish. I get it – the 17-year-olds are f@$%ing eating this $#!@ up, and maybe a little bit older than that – maybe some people never got out of high school. But if it’s not like a genuine dislike between two people, and it’s not creative, either, where it’s just that annoying $#!@-talk – ‘You’re an idiot.’ ‘Well, you’re stupid.’ – it’s f@$%ing so stupid, man.” h/t MMAjunkie
Conor's online fashion retailer takes on site traffic
August McGregor is not letting operations get pinned down by insufficient e-commerce infrastructure. The collaboration between custom suit designer David August and McGregor is an upscale men’s fashion brand that also acts as a vertical online retailer. Launched at the end of 2018, August McGregor needed a reliable online platform that could support sales and deliver a satisfying and reliable customer experience, even with the significant growth expected as a result of McGregor’s high public profile. August McGregor follows a marketing strategy of releasing an entire capsule wardrobe as a “drop.” As a result, collections often sell out within 48 hours of being made available on the company’s e-commerce site. August McGregor decided to leverage technology from e-commerce platform BigCommerce. Using a combination of out-of-the-box BigCommerce features and basic customization, August McGregor launched its e-commerce site in three weeks, and offers alternate checkout methods through PayPal, Apple Pay and Amazon Pay to better accommodate the mobile-first customer base, and the use of global shipping solution EasyShip enables fulfillment of international transactions. h/t ChainStorage
Ferguson reportedly exhibiting unbalanced behavior, not violence
When Tony Ferguson's wife filed a restraining order after multiple police visits to their home and a hearing was scheduled for 4/5, many fans assumed that violence against her had happened. However, the truth is there hasn't been any, and the fighter has not been arrested. Rather, he's apparently suffering mentally unbalanced episodes, including changing the locks on the doors, throwing "holy water" on family members, tearing apart a fireplace, believing there was a computer chip in his leg, and that someone was inside the walls. The fighter reportedly has refused to see a doctor. h/t MMAjunkie

A proposed sports arena in Dagestan is designed to mimic the shape of the papakha, Dagestan’s national headdress; the 7,000 seat building was explicitly inspired by UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, and will likely include gyms, training facilities, a hotel, and a museum that showcases Dagestani athletes. The architects behind the project are currently seeking out the necessary approval and funding to ensure that this project moves forward.” h/t BE • Watch video proposal

Proper No. Twelve debuts in Australia
Conor McGregor launched Proper No. Twelve Irish whiskey in Ireland and the US in September; it experienced “record-breaking demand and sales” in its first six months on the market. The move into the Australian market comes just weeks after the product made its debut in the UK according to Notorous: “Landing in Australia before St Paddy’s Day was my goal given the many thousands of requests we have had there since our Ireland, US and UK launches. As of today, we have shipped close to 200,000 nine-litre cases from the distillery, an incredible level but only the beginning for me and my Proper team!” h/t The Spirit Business
The Last Stylebender: I won't feel any different when I win the belt
Israel Adesanya fights Kelvin Gastelum for the interim middleweight title at UFC 236, and with a win will face middleweight title holder Robert Whittaker, who he recently offered to words to: "He thinks I’m not as good as I think I am, I’ll show him I’m greater than I think I am. So, they all can talk, they all have something to say until they’re in front of me, and they get chin checked. ... Dana puts the belt around your waist, and that moment will be cool. But I won’t feel any different. Rashad Evans said it best. He said, after he won the belt at UFC 92 against Forrest Griffin, after he won the belt he expected to feel different, but he never did. And I already kind of know that about myself. Like, it’s not gonna be any different.” h/t MMA Fighting • Listen to Submission Radio
Combative sports regulations update in Grande Prairie, Alberta
In addition to State, Tribal, and Municipal athletic commissions, in Canada there are Municipal ACs, and improvements are underway in Grande Prairie, Alberta. In part, the amendment would remove the requirement to show a negative result for Hepatitis B surface antigen. Coun. Kevin O’Toole, who chairs the Grande Prairie Combative Sports Commission, said this requirement is redundant and already dealt with elsewhere. In addition, it would extend the dilated ophthalmologic (eye) examination requirement to 180 days from the current 90 days. The amendment also adjusts the fee for judges for both professional and amateur bouts in order to better reflect provincial rates. h/t Daily Herald Tribune
Molly McCann predicts Priscila Cachoeira fight on Saturday: Blood
Meatball: “She was unbeaten before she got to the UFC, I had a really $#!@ decision that went against me in Brazil, but then I lost my [UFC] debut and she lost her debut. It’s two strikers that finish people and we’ve both got done by chokes. It’s really fair f@$%ing fight. ... We all know that I’m there to punch heads in. If she didn’t come for me, I’d be shocked because she’s got a gas tank that can’t match mine. I know going into the second and third rounds, I could get 10-8s by putting my pace on her and getting in and out. ... I saw someone on YouTube doing a breakdown of it. [The person] said, ‘This is a potential fight of the night candidate. You’ve got two girls whose careers are riding on this fight.’ This is the life-changing one. This is the one where you want a finish. It’s going to be a bloodbath, I think." h/t MMA Fighting • Listen to Euro Bash podcast 920:25 mark)
Darren Till: Askren has to fight, not tweet his way up
Ben Askren will be on hand in London to call out the winner of Darren Till vs. Jorge Masvidal at UFC on ESPN+ 5 on Sat, but with a win, Till may not play: “He can call out, but he’s gotta work his way up the ranks as well. It all depends on who I want to fight next — not him. He only has one fight in the UFC. He needs to work his way up. ... I don’t give a f@$% [about the taunting on Twitter. It’s not personal to me. It’s all business. So, my attention is on the welterweight gold. He gets a bit of attention like any welterweight gets attention. Obviously, Masvidal gets the most attention. It’s just business as usual.” h/t MMA Fighting
Justin Willis: Curtis Blaydes is not the nail, he's boring, I'm the nail
“I’m a complete martial artist and I’m becoming more and more complete every single day. ... Brock Lesnar didn’t want to strike with Mark Hunt and took him down. Curtis Blaydes took [Hunt] down. To me that’s cowardice. We’re in game where this is kill or be killed. I want to go out there to kill everybody. I knew in my heart of hearts I was a better striker [than Hunt]. Just like with Curtis Blaydes, I know I’m the better wrestler. That’s not a pride thing. That’s where I put in years and years of hard work being the nail. With Cain and DC I was the sparring partner, literally the only one that stuck around for years until I learned how to become the hammer. My question is: I haven’t seen in any fights where [Blaydes] answers correctly the moment where he became the nail. He automatically went to what he was comfortable with, and that’s his wrestling. I am utterly comfortable there.” Willis fights Blayes at UFC on ESPN+ 6 on 3/23 h/t MMAjunki.
