MVP wants Daley in Bellator welterweight GP, unsurprised he's not
When nine of the ten fighters in the Bellator welterweight Grand Prix were named, Michael 'Venon' Page was on the list, but Paul Daley conspicuously wasn't. "You know who I want -- Paul Daley,” said MVP to Sherdog. ”If I get that fight, I would leave MMA happy. We need to fight. If he ends up in the tournament, that would be good. I’d love to be the first person to kick him right out of it. He does his own thing. It doesn’t really surprise me that he’s not in it. I’m in the tournament and that’s all that matters.”
Bellator welterweight GP begins Sept. 29
Bellator MMA president Scott Coker's newest tournament will be a welterweight grand prix, drawing from Bellator's deepest division. There will be a 10 man field, with four fighters fighting to make the final 8. Nien of the ten were named: Yaroslav Amosov, Jon Fitch, Neiman Gracie, Andrey Koreshkov, Lorenz Larkin, Douglas Lima, Rory MacDonald, Michael Page, Ed Ruth. The tournament will begin on September 29 with a trilogy fight between former champions Douglas Lima vs. Andrey Koreshkov; it will be the first MMA to stream on the $9.99 per month over the top streaming service DAZN.
DAZN to launch on Sept. 10 at $9.99
The over the top streaming service DAZN will begin September 10 with a one-month free trial, and will cost $9.99 monthly thereafter, announced CEO James Rushton at a press conference today in Manhattan. 22 Bellator events will stream on DAZN, although 15 of those will also stream on Paramount. 50 boxing events will also stream. The service will debut 9/10 with boxing heavyweight Anthony Joshua vs. Alexander Povetkin. Bellator will debut on September 29th with a card headlined by Gegard Mousasi vs. Rory MacDonald.
Whittaker out until 2019 due to hands injuries
“It’s still only several weeks from surgery,” said Whittaker to Ariel Helwani, as transcribed by MMA Fighting. “I can’t even start a rehab process yet, it’s more of just letting it heal and letting it set properly first. "They put a plate and some screws. People don’t know this but also I did ligament damage in my left hand ... I definitely won’t be ready before next year. ... The healing process has to be done before I can even start a rehab program and then I need to strengthen my hand up to 100 percent. Then, when I’m a 100 percent, I’d like to get a little bit of training done. Realistically, I’m looking at like February of next year.”
Andre 'Dida' returns to fighting with RIZIN debut by end of year
Andre 'Dida' Amado, coach of Evolucao Thai team in Curitiba, Brazil, announced he will be fighting for RIZIN by year's end. The 34-year-old, who currently trains top fighters Rafael Carvalho, Sergio Moraes, and Francisco Trinaldo, left the sport in 2010 on a four-fight losing streak, to a murderers row of Gesias Cavalcante, Eddie Alvarez, Katsunori Kikuno, and most recently K.J. Noons. Prior to that he had been 7-0.
Dillashaw: Win in Garbrandt rematch makes me division G.O.A.T.
UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw appeared recently on The MMA Hour, and argued that a win in the Garbrandt rematch on August 4, 2018 at UFC 227, makes him the division G.O.A.T. despite a Split Decision loss to former champion Dominick Cruz. "I know I’m the best bantamweight ever,” said Dillashaw. “I’ve got a split decision loss to Dominick Cruz and that changed everything, a fight that I thought I won. That changed everything, but I am the best bantamweight in the world. I get to continue to grow my legacy. Then I’ll move onto the next challenge and continue to be the best pound-for-pound fighter that I possibly can be.” T.J. was asked if he needs to win a rematch vs. Cruz. “I don’t think so,” he said. “My performances speak for themselves. We’ve got to see if Dominick Cruz can even fight. The guy can’t even get in there anymore, so we’ll see if it comes up, but right now I’ve just got to worry about knocking Cody out in three weeks.”

Cyborg: I think my next fight will be last for UFC
UFC women's featherweight champion Cris Cyborg is the best fighter in WMMA history. However, she is frequently at odds with UFC management over the lack of a full division at 145. Another dispute has arisen over the timing of a superfight vs. bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes. 'The Lioness' wants the fight on 12/29, while Cyborg wants 9/8. “I think this fight will be my last in the UFC, because my contract expires in March,” said Cyborg to Combate News. "Doing this fight in December, I think it will be the last that people will see me fight.”
Bermudez: I don't know about my future in fighting
UFC featherweight Dennis Bermudez has lost four in a row, the last three via Split Decision, and the latest a controversial SD to Rick Glenn at UFC Fight Night 133. 'The Menace' was asked by MMAjunkie what's next. “I don’t know. We’re going to let it sink, and I’ll get back to you,” he replied. “I mean, I’ve got kids. I’ve got a house. Financially, it sucks. I have to pay my coaches, my manager. I’m paying for my week out here, the flights. It doesn’t pay to lose. It doesn’t. I mean, if you’re in the NBA and you lose, you still go back to your Ferrari. Here, man, it’s tough to pay taxes on it. It sucks."
Northcutt muses over move to middleweight
'Super' Sage Northcutt has moved back and forth between lightweight and welterweight in the UFC, but after a win at UFC Fight Night 133, 170 is his new home. And at 22, he may not be done growing. “Who knows?” said Northcutt post fight to MMAjunkie. “If you look at my brother, my brother’s like (6' 4"), and he’s only 19 years old. So I hope I’m as tall as him. I might be 6-5. I could be 220, 230 pounds. I have no idea. My mom’s dad was 6-5. I could be fighting at 185 in the future. But first, 170.”
Eduardo Dantas will have surgery on Monday afternoon for fractured leg
Brazilian bantamweight Eduardo Dantas broke his leg in a :58 KO loss to Michael McDonald at Bellator 202 on Friday. He tells Guilherme Cruz for MMA Fighting that he went to the hospital post-fight in Oklahoma and was told no surgery was necessary, but upon his arrival in Brazil, multiple MDs said he needed emergency surgery. "I fractured the fibula and will have to have surgery mostly because of the fibula, but also because of the ligaments," he explained. The former Bellator champ has now lost two in a row for the first time in his career.
Volkanovski calls out Mendes after beating Elkins at UFC Fight Night 133
Alex Volkanovski pushed his winning streak to 15 with a tough unanimous decision win over Darren Elkins at UFC Fight Night 133. It broke Elkins' six-fight win streak. Chad Mendes TKOed Myles Jury in Round 1 on the same card, and Volkanovski wants him next. “I’d like [Mendes]. He’s a big name," said Volkanovski … He’s coming off a suspension. I don’t know the case in that situation, but I don’t like that sort of s***. He obviously got caught doing something. They’re the guys I want. Some of us are naturally strong. He got caught doing something, and that pisses me off. So I want him.”
Nurmagomedov defends SD win over Scoggins
MMADecisions.com noted that 17 of 17 websites tracked had Justin Scoggins the winner over Said Nurmagomedov at UFC Fight Night 133 on Saturday. However, two of the three judges saw it the other way; Nurmagomedov naturally agrees. “For all three rounds, I was pressing him,” said Nurmagomedov via a translator to MMAjunkie post fight. “I was putting a lot of pressure on him, but sometimes I did a mistake. I was staying in front of him too long, but overall, I think I won this fight because I was constantly pressing him. ... He belongs in the top 10 of (flyweights), even despite all of his losses." Scoggins has now lost three in a row. It was the sixth straight win, and UFC debut for Khabib's cousin.
Chuck Norris asked who would win if he fought Vladimir Putin?
"Let me just say this: it would be similar to what would happen if I were to become a politician – something I’m regularly asked to become. The reason I can’t become a congressman, senator, governor, president or any politician is because the second someone disagrees with me, I’ll be tempted to jump over any barrier between us and choke out my opposition! Now, that wouldn’t be very nice, would it?" - Chuck Norris
JDS wants trilogy fight vs. Miocic
At UFC on FOX 13 on December 13, 2014, Junior dos Santos unanimously decisioned Stipe Miocic in the fight of the night. At UFC 211 on May 13, 2017, JDS lost via TKO at 2:22 of Round 1 to then champion Miocic. On Saturday after unanimously decisioning Blagoy Ivanov, JDS called for a trilogy fight. It was Cigano's first first following the title challenge loss, due to a controversial tainted supplement test failure. “I’m not sure, but a rematch with Miocic would be very welcome,” said dos Santos. “The heavyweight division, there is many, many interesting things happening. Let’s sit down with my team and soon we will know.”
Northcutt killing with kindness and nasty technique
With model looks, opportunities not available so soon to the less mediagenic, and an earnestness worthy of Mr. Rogers, it can be a little hard to like Sage Northcutt. But it's impossible not to like him, too. At UFC Fight Night 133 'Super' Sage was out vs. Zak Ottow and thundered back to win via KO. In a sport and nation septic with trash talk, after winning, Northcutt was winning. “I think that we all got to have respect for each other," he said. "And we could all be more careful with the things we say. But I’m so excited, thanks you guys!” Then he laughed, a little nervously.

Amanda Nunes and Cris Cyborg have been warring on social media about the date of their potential showdown in a champion vs. champion fight. And although the fight is not official, that hasn't stopped oddsmakers from setting the line. And it seems they do not have faith that Nunes can be the person to defeat Cyborg who opened as a -300 favorite over Nunes, a +230 underdog.
