UFC boss gives update on Max Holloway condition
“He’s good," said UFC president Dana White. "He’s doing well. They gave him a time frame. I’d actually like to wait a little longer on his time frame and make sure that he’s 100 percent. I don’t know yet [what the time frame to return is]. There was no stroke. It either had to do with concussion – either a concussion, or they believe it happened to him because he was cutting weight at that time. We still don’t know for sure. But we know he’s doing OK, he’s healthy, and he’s doing a lot better. What I want to do is have him take some time off. Here’s the problem: No matter how far away you book a fight, I’m worried about him starting to spar. I don’t want him to do any of that stuff until it’s absolutely necessary. I want to give him more time. There is no time frame. I just want this kid to be healthy.” H/T MMAjunkie

Woodley says he’ll fight Till at UFC 228 even if Till misses weight again
“If Till misses weight we’re still gonna fight, it just won’t be a world title fight for him and he’ll have to forfeit a percentage of his purse,” said Woodley. “This is a big fight for him. It’s a world title opportunity and my gut says he’s gonna rise to the occasion. Whatever problems he had in the past with making weight, I believe he’s gonna make it. It’s too big of an opportunity for him not to. ... One or two pounds ain’t gonna really change up the dynamic or outcome of the fight so I’m gonna go into it confident and not worry about that.” H/T MMA Fighting
Alvarez: Win over Poirier should lead to title shot
"I don’t see [the UFC] putting anyone else in front of me," said Alvarez. "It just don’t make any sense. For where I’m at in my career, the people that I’ve went against. I fight back-to-back-to-back the hardest resume. You name another fighter or anybody in the lightweight division who has fought the toughest guys." 'The Underground King' also conceded that if McGregor returns, he will get the shot at Khabib Nurmagomedov, because money. FULL STORY LINK

Manager: McGregor safer in jail than fighting Nurmagomedov
Conor McGregor's legal troubles are past and assuming the UFC wants to make tens of millions of dollars, he is now free to fight, most likely vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov, perhaps at UFC 229 in October or UFC 230 in November. The Eagle's manager Ali Abdelaziz said Notorious should be careful what he wishes for. “There’s no more talking. This is the Khabib show now. To be honest the way I feel about it, Conor would be much safer in jail. If this fight happens the person who would execute the community service is Khabib by giving this ass whooping for the people.” H/T MMAWeekly.com
McGregor striking coach expects fight vs. Nurmagomedov, this year
Conor McGregor's striking coach Owen Roddy says 'Notorious' is eager to fight following the conclusion of the case against him for the dolly attack at UFC 223. “I’m sure it’s all going to be negotiated now. I would like to see that fight this year and I think the frontrunner to be Conor’s opponent for his return is Khabib. As I said before, he’s eager to get something going, he’s been training hard. He’s been doing all sorts of wrestling and jiu-jitsu — he’s just been enjoying his training. I’m sure he’s going to strike a deal with the UFC, and whenever he’s in there, we’ll be prepared.” H/T Peter Carroll, MMA Fighting

Edson Barboza joins ATT
UFC lightweight Edson Barboza trained for years with Ricardo Almeida and Mark Henry in NJ, but following back to back losses vs. Kevin Lee and Khabib Nurmagomedov, he has moved to ATT in Florida. ”I love them, coaches and training partners, but life brought me back to Florida. We’ll continue talking. It’s a bit complicated now that I’ll be on a different team, but I love them all,” said Barboza of his old team to MMA Fighting. ”I moved on Monday, so it’s been three days since I’m here. There are a lot of guys I know there and I felt at home, no doubt. I spoke with the coaches and I’m happy and excited. I’m still moving, worried about this part first, but I’ll start training tomorrow.” Barboza aims to fight again in late October or November.
Dustin Poirier is a wonderful human being
In a sport that is necessarily self-centered, and as well too driven by trash talk, UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier is a beacon of decency. Though his The Good Fight Foundation, he and his wife Jolie are trying to raise funds for 500 backpacks full of school supplies for school children, and updated computers for teachers, at Acadian Middle School, which they both attended. Poirier will be auctioning off the gear from his fight vs. Eddie Alvarez at UFC on FOX 30 on Saturday. “I’m putting all the proceeds toward filling those 500 backpacks,” explained Poirer to MMAjunkie. “A lot of people don’t know that these teachers are on a pretty low salary, and they spend their own money to get equipment they need in the classroom. So we’re just giving back to places where we see we’re needed, and things that are important to us.”
Chase Hooper discusses ‘development contract’ after win at DWTNCS 14
Chase Hooper, 18, entered the cage vs. Canaan Kawaihae looking a lot like Harry Potter; by the end of Round 1, he looked like a bleeding Harry Potter. However, Kawaihae won his previous fights so fast he never entered waist-deep waters, and Potter, sorry, Hooper ended up taking a spirited unanimous decision, with entertaining grappling. Three fighters at DWTNCS 14 got UFC contracts, while Hooper, now 6-0, got a development contract. “So, from my understanding, I kind of keep fighting locally,” he told MMAjunkie post-fight. “They kind of help to build me up, make me a bigger name everywhere, and get me more recognized. And when they feel I’m ready, they’ll take me to the UFC. … For right now, I’m going to go eat some some tacos or something, try to fuel back up, and ball out a little bit.”

The remarkably free-spirited Matt Riddle left the UFC after failing two tests for the demon weed marijuana, and signed with Bellator, but never fought. He has focused since on professional wrestling, and following the announcement that he pulled out of dates with Over The Top Wrestling on August 18th and 19th, Dave Meltzer believes he's headed up - "He is probably WWE bound and it's time. I don't wanna say he was languishing but unless he was gonna do Ring Of Honor which he wasn't going to do or New Japan, he might as well be in WWE. It's his time to be a Superstar." H/T Wrestling Inc

Vanderford would take UFC fight one week before marriage to PVZ
Austin Vanderford recently fought and won on Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series, but did not receive a contract offer. He intelligently believes he is on the UFC's radar, and is ready to take a fight on short notice, even if it buts right up against his wedding to UFC strawweight Paige VanZant. “Paige and I were just having a conversation, if God willing the UFC called and wanted me on a short-notice fight the weekend before our wedding, I’d take it. I’m a fighter and this is what I love to do. I literally have to have people tell me, ‘Hey, you gotta take a week off after this fight.’ Because I want to be back in the gym right now getting better and getting ready for the next fight. I’m taking the opportunity, 100 percent. No second though. And the great thing is Paige is a fighter and is in the UFC and she understands and we both understand that and she supports me on that. No doubt." H/T Alexander K. Lee, MMA Fighting
