WATCH: Adrian Yanez weathers early storm and TKO’s Randy Costa at UFC Vegas 32
From the first seconds of the fight, Costa came out very aggressive against his opponent. Throwing a plethora of kicks at all parts of Yanez. Midway through, “Zohan’s” jab became a major factor in the fight. Peppering Yanez at will as he bloodied his nose and forced swelling on his right eye. It was a dominant round, until with about a minute left, there seemed to be a momentum shift as Yanez took the center and pushed the pace.

That wave of momentum continued in the second as it was a battle of dueling jabs from the two 27-year-olds. However, Costa’s output wasn’t the same as in the first. Maybe it was the pressure and success Yanez started to have, or those early kicks took something out of, but the script was flipped and Yanez became the dominant force.
With about three minutes left in the round, the kid from Houston started landing with a barrage of combinations as Costa held up a high guard and had little response. Eventually, a nasty uppercut through the Massachusetts native’s guard collapsed him. Sensing victory in his grasp, Yanez whaled away with punches and forced the referee to stop the fight with 2:49 left in the second round.
The battle of Dr. Pepper versus Reese’s delivered in the way fans wanted as both bantamweights had major moments against the other. In the end, Dr. Pepper prevailed and Yanez won his third straight in the Octagon and seventh overall. The Texan is the top rising prospect in the division.
The loss ends a two-fight win streak for Costa, however, this is certainly one of those fights where Costa left the Octagon with some things to be positive about.
These two very well could meet again down the road.Join the discussion on this topic...
