Screaming, yelling, breaking stuff, high-fiving, crying, silence…these are many of the reactions you feel after watching a fight like we saw at UFC 196.
Whether you were supporting the superstar Conor McGregor or holding it down for the 209, the main event at UFC 196 was one that made people react and got people excited. It was an iconic moment in the young history of our sport.
We had the current UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor, moving up two weight classes to fight at welterweight, against one of the toughest fighters in the world, in Nate Diaz. This fight is going to go down as one of the biggest fights of all-time.
When you look at this fight on paper, it can seem like one that wouldn’t be exciting due to the fact we have a guy moving up 25 pounds. You would maybe think that there would be a disadvantage. But when it really came down to it, this was as super of a super fight that we are ever going to see. If you need me to explain why, well…I won’t.
With the crazy amount of fights that the UFC is throwing these days, it can be hard to get excited. But every so often you get fights like these that get the whole world talking and make the sport that much more polarizing.
You have die-hard fight fans, casual sports fans, the entire country of Ireland, fans of pop culture, haters, celebrities, posers that want to be involved in what's going on, and every walk of life interested in this bout.
Many were interested in this bout because of how dominant Conor McGregor has been and the amazing trash talking that he brings to the sport. When you have fighters this good you want to be there to see an amazing fighter win, but you also don’t want to be the person that missed a great fighter losing as well. Because that’s history.
No matter the reason you ended up watching the fight, this video below is one that really puts it in perspective as to why fight fans are some of the best fans in the world. Thank you, Nate Diaz. Thank you, Conor McGregor. Thank you, UFC.
