The Khamzat Chimaev hype train looks to be back in business and ready to leave the station, en route to UFC 267 in October.

Khamzat Chimaev vs. Li Jingliang agreed to for October

Raphael Marinho of Combate was the first to report [h/t to BJPenn] that a matchup at welterweight between the Russian, and twelfth ranked Chinese talent Li Jingliang has been agreed to.

“Ultimate hit, the return of Khamzat Chimaev for UFC 267 against Li Jingliang. We found that both sides accepted the fight, only the signing of contracts remains,” Marinho wrote on Twitter (via Google translation)

UFC 267 is expected to take place October 30, on the promotions fight island stomping grounds in Abu Dhabi. Although it is not official, and ink still needs to be put to the contracts, the news jives with UFC President Dana White’s recent comments that an October return for Chimaev was the plan.

“Borz” rapidly rose to prominence in 2020 after fighting twice in July of that year, and three times in a three-month span. In all of his Octagon appearances, he ended his opponents night’s early. The 27-year-olds last and most notable UFC outing consisted of a 17-second knockout of Gerald Meerschaert at middleweight.

In his three fights for the organization, he has competed at 170-pounds just once. However, White confirmed this week that plans have Chimaev foregoing his status as a two-division competitor, and focusing specifically on the welterweight division going forward.

Li, 33, has had a rather unappreciated run as China’s best MMA import to the UFC, outside of former strawweight champion Zhang Weili. “The Leech” has racked up a 10-4 record during a seven-year stint in the promotion. Earning pivotal victories over eventual Professional Fighters League welterweight finalist David Michaud, two-time The Ultimate Fighter veteran Dhiego Lima, and most recently over formerly ranked welterweight talent Santigo Ponzinnibio.
