Early UFC 272 betting odds have set Jorge Masvidal as the underdog in opening lines for his main event bout with Colby Covington at UFC 272.

The bout between former training partners and one-time roommates is nearly done, according to reports, and is expected to be a big draw. Hence why it landed a pay-per-view slot on March 5 despite having no title on the line and ranked fighters well out of title contention after both have lost twice to reigning champion Kamaru Usman in recent years.

Multiple betting books installed Covington as the -300 favorite, meaning a bettor would need to wager $300 to win $100. Masvidal opened at +250 or 5-2.

The welterweight bout is scheduled to take place inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and is all but official.

Masvidal (35-15) is making his return to action following consecutive defeats to Usman in July 2020, and April of last year. The latter was a “Gamebred’s” first knockout loss in 13 years.

Covington (16-3) also enters the fight off a loss against Usman at UFC 268 in Nov. His two setbacks to the champion sandwich a technical knockout victory over former division champion Tyron Woodley in Sept. of 2020.
