Mike Tyson is known as one of the greatest boxers of all-time. Early in his career he was a scary individual for many boxers. His highlight reel is probably one of the most exciting reels a boxer can have. In his 50 wins as a professional boxer, he has knocked out 44 of them. But what people don’t know is that he has lost 6 times and in those 6 times he’s been knocked out or TKO’d more than once.
Here are 3 devastating loses that Tyson had in his career:
3) Evander Holyfield
On November 9, 1996 these two great heavyweights finally met in the ring. What most people don’t know is that both of them were on the same Olympic team in 1984. Holyfield went on to winning a bronze. But it took them over a decade to finally compete against each other and Holyfield ended up TKO’ing Tyson in the 11th round.
2) Lennox Lewis
Near the end of his career, Tyson went on to meet the gigantic and future all-time great heavyweight Lennox Lewis. The Brit knocked out the American in the 8th round. This fight won Lewis the WBC, IBF, IBO, The Ring and lineal heavyweight titles.
1) Buster Douglas
On February 11, 1990, Mike Tyson was undefeated at 37-0 and had knocked out or TKO’d most of his opponents. His undefeated streak and how he finished his opponents gave him an aura that struck fear into his opponents. But at a packed Tokyo Dome in Japan, the unbelievable happened. Buster Douglas shockingly KO’d Tyson in the 10th round and handed him his first loss.
