There are a few names in Combat Sports that are iconic, and the Gracie last name is certainly one of them. Bringing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to the forefront of popularity with the success of Gracie Jiu Jitsu as a fighting style in the early UFC’s, BJJ quickly earned a reputation as a martial art practical for self defense.

In this video a young Ralek Gracie is seen fighting another high school aged student. When asked about the reason for the altercation Ralek Gracie said that they guy in the video had been bullying his sister and teasing her for sometime. After having told the guy several times at a family gathering to leave his sister alone, the blonde haired bully finally replied to Ralek Gracie that he was a Kickboxing Champion and anytime Ralek felt like it he was willing to step out side and Kick his ass.

Using the simple basics of Gracie Jiu Jitsu, Ralek was able to close the distance against the kickboxer and initiate a clench position for the takedown landing directly into side control position. From there Ralek showcased the superior position of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by transitioning to the mount and other dominate positions before securing the position for a rear naked choke submission. Remarkably after letting the Bully out of the hold Ralek is asked to fight him again, this time using the same strategy to secure the choke and holding it until the kid officially gives up.

This video is a great example of the self defense abilities of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the ability Martial Arts can have in Bullyproofing your child. Besides BJJ what other Martial Arts do you think are practical for High school age kids to learn for self defense?
