When it comes to the most dangerous weapons in MMA, there is a lot to choose from. Pretty much every fighter out there has a technique or two that they are really good with. The criterion for being a highly dangerous technique though is when that particular move can end the fight in a split second, oftentimes in brutal fashion.
Here are the top 5 most dangerous weapons in MMA, in no particular order.
5) Conor McGregor’s straight left hand punch
This is McGregor’s ‘money punch’ that he does most of his work with. While most of the other punching techniques on this list are looping, hook style punches, what makes McGregor unique is the amount of power he can pack into a quick, straight punch. He’s knocked out a who’s who list with his left hand including Jose Aldo, Chad Mendes, and most recently Eddie Alvarez. Is Floyd Mayweather next?
4) Edson Barboza’s leg kicks
The amount of force Barboza has behind his leg kicks is really something to behold. He puts his entire body into each kick, with perfect technique. Very few fighters can stand up to his leg kicks and he even has several TKO wins in his MMA career just from leg kicks alone. How many other fighters out there can say that?
3) Chuck Liddell’s overhand right
Chuck was always very dangerous with his unorthodox, looping style punching techniques. The thing about his unorthodox strikes was they would come from angles you wouldn’t normally expect. He used his big overhand right punch to brutally knock out Alistair Overeem back in PRIDE FC and it landed on his forehead. That takes some power.
2) Dan Henderson’s ‘H-bomb’
Hendo’s huge right hook punch, coined the ‘h-bomb’ is one of the most devastating strikes in MMA history. Though Henderson was known as ‘Decision Dan’ early in his career, he really came into his own as a striker later on in his career. He usually set up his h-bomb with an inside leg kick to close the distance before delivering the devastating blow.
1) Cro Cop’s left high kick
There was a point in time where Cro Cop was unbeatable with this technique. What makes his left high kick so special is that you knew it was coming and it didn’t matter. He was so fast with it and used is to knock out just about everybody he fought back in the day. He famously quipped about it back in the day saying ‘right kick hospital, left kick cemetery.’
