Skeptical participants challenge 'No-touch' martial arts master during seminar

Grand master claims to harness the power of qi, the "body's vital energy", enabling adepts to defend themselves against opponents without making physical contact.

Wikipedia defines the martial arts technique of Empty Force as "the expression of force without making physical contact." This technique claims to harness the power of qi, the "body's vital energy," enabling masters of the art to defend themselves against opponents without making physical contact.

A Finnish empty-force master, Jukka Lampila, teaches that he can incapacitate people with an empty force emitted from his heart. Here is a highlight of the grand master at work:

Lampila claims mastery of the “Empty Force”— the mysterious power that can control an attacker and requires no physical prowess or martial proficiency. However, according to the official website, we’re not doing this formless art justice in our description.

“There is a multitude of descriptions for the term but none of them might reveal its meaning in all aspects,” is how the site describes Empty force (Efo). “With Efo, there are no specific forms or techniques and each trainee applies it the way it best fits oneself. In Efo there are no “courses” that would start and end somewhere.

"Instead, the fundamental principles (relaxation, mind, and breathing) are exercised during every session. Thus, anyone can join and train at any time. And if you can’t join each and every session, you won’t miss anything irreplaceable.”

Master Lampila gave a seminar in Barcelona, charging attendees about 100 bucks. It's hard to imagine, but not everyone believed in grand-master's abilities, and at the Barcelona seminar, some skeptics decided to put his claims to the test.

Empty force seems to work brilliantly as a method of self-defense, as long as your attackers believe in it too. However, if you are attacked by someone who doesn't believe things that are not true, you have a big problem.
