Judging by this video, perhaps the likes of Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate should be nervously looking over their shoulders, as this next generation Jiu-Jitsu starlet, Clara “Mini-Máquina Silva, is already well on her way to becoming a force to be reckoned with!

The video shows the 6 year-old ’Mini-Maquina’, (‘Mini-Machine’) competing against a boy at the Buffalo Combat Cup jiu-jitsu tournament in Portugal back in 2015.

Grappling with a boy at a tournament like this at such a young age would have been a daunting prospect for some, but not ‘Mini Maquina’, who couldn’t wait to get onto the mat and show what she could do.

In fact, when the match began she confidently bounded forward and was almost immediately able to drag the young lad to the mat with ease.

Showing good technique for her age, she immediately took his back, dropped back while sinking in a rear-naked choke, and applied both hooks for good measure.

The boy tried in vain to escape, but ‘Mini Maquina’ followed him as he rolled onto his belly and continued to apply the choke until he tapped out shortly afterwards.

All in all, it had taken her coach longer to tie up her belt prior to the match than it did for her to emerge victorious! The two competitors then showed good sportsmanship by hugging each other afterwards.

’Mini Maquina’ would go on to take first place on the podium at the tournament after winning matches against both boys and girls.

Jiu-Jitsu is a terrific sport for children to participate in as it promotes confidence, self-esteem, discipline and respect, as well as being a great way to stay active and healthy.

It can also prove to be an appealing option for parents who would like their kids to learn an effective form of self-defence, but have been put off by other forms of martial arts that involve striking.
