Bellator fights we want to see in 2021: Amosov vs. Lima

Over the last four-plus years, Douglas Lima has cleaned out the Bellator welterweight division like Leon in The Professional, with tactical decimation that they never saw coming. However, there looms a new threat to the current champion. And a match-up between the two is one of my many Bellator fight demands for 2021.

Yaroslav Amosov vs. Douglas Lima

Douglas Lima defending his welterweight crown against Yaroslav Amosov is a fight that needs to happen and it better because the Ukrainian “Dynamo” has earned it. Do you see what I did there?

Mixed martial arts is not a sport where a bunch of undefeated fighters at the top duke it out to see who’s O must go. Often, superstar talents have a few losses before they reach elite status. In Amosov, you have the rarity of a spotless record after 25 fights. With seven of those coming inside the Bellator cage. Against well-respected talents like Ed Ruth and Logan Storley.

The contender options for Lima are thin because he’s beaten 90% of the best fighters in the division. A case could be made for Neiman Gracie. However, he got his chance at gold in 2019 and came up short. Then some bad luck with injuries has allowed him only one win since; it was, however, an impressive victory.

Who would win?

One of the best championship narratives you can get in fighting is a dominant star taking on the challenge of an unbeaten rising talent looking to prove the hype is real. Amosov is as well-rounded as it gets and is an absolute beast with his takedowns, an area that is the only place you might find a weakness in the champ’s game. You can’t know if the 27-year-old is championship material until you test him at a championship level. Although I think “The Phenom” is just too good to lose that fight right now, it could be the fight where we all find out Amosov is the heir apparent as Bellator’s welterweight future.
