Dana White: Ali Abdelaziz not paying Tony Ferguson 100/100

Dominance MMA founder Ali Abdelaziz manages the careers of UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, interim division champ Justin Geathje, and a number of other top fighters including 155er Islam Makhachev, who is on a six-fight win streak. The manager wants Tony Ferguson to fight Makhachev, which seems a little improbable given that Ferguson is ranked #3 in division, and Makhachev #12.

Makhachev had been scheduled to fight Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 254, but RDA tested positive for COVID-19. Abdelaziz enlisted Nurmagomedov to make the case.

“Right now, [Ferguson] have choice,” said the champ. “He can come to Fight Island and fight Islam. Islam have six-fight win streak, he is almost in the Top 10. Why not? Why he don’t want to take this fight? UFC is going to give him good money.”

And Abdelaziz sweetened the pot, offering Ferguson an extra 100/100, to which Ferguson offered a sincere GFY.

During a recent interview with Kevin Iole, UFC president Dana White said Abdelaziz isn’t paying Tony Ferguson, and that another suggested opponent for Makhachev, Michael Chandler, has a different task, so Makhachev isn’t fighting at all at UFC 254.

Chandler, former three-time Bellator lightweight champion, is currently cutting weight, and will step in if either Nurmagomedov or Gaethje pull out.

“I need Chandler,” said White. “I need him and we have other plans for him. If he doesn’t have to step in, we have other plans.”

“Hey, Ali can pump up everyone’s check if he wants to,” said White, laughing. “I like it, it’s good to be rich, that Khabib money. No, I have not talked to Tony but our guys have. But we wouldn’t let Ali put up the money for, know what I mean, we wouldn’t let that happen, I’m joking.”
