UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya appeared recently on MMA Junkie Radio, and discussed what’s next. “The Last Stylebender” is expected to challenge Jan Blachowicz for the light heavyweight belt early in 2021, and after that, he plans to go after former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who vacated the title Blachowicz won in order to to make a run at heavyweight. Adesanya even has an arena in mind, Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, with fans in attendance, in the summer.

I’m already the A-side, explained Adesanya. I’m the guy that’s actually active. I’m the guy that’s actually fighting.

I like fighting with no audience, but that fight in particular, I want there to be an audience. But if there’s no audience for that fight, as well, I don’t mind. I just feel it’ll be glorious in a packed stadium with 75,000 people, you know. But, yeah, I don’t mind. I kind of like the last fight [vs . Paulo Costa], where you could hear the crispness of the strikes, the impact of the leg kicks, the shots sounding like gunshots. Either way is good for me.

Glover Teixeira may have fought his way to a title shot at UFC on ESPN+ 40 on Saturday night, but it could take a while. Stipe Miocic, who has fought just five times the past four years, is expected to defend next in a rematch vs. Francis Ngannou, which may leave Jones looking for something to do. The winner of Blachowicz vs. Adesanya would be a natural, and UFC president Dana White already okayed it.

So Adesanya’s desire to fight Jones at light heavyweight in defense of his champ champ status is not as improbable as it may seem at first glance. A stadium packed with 75,000 fans in the summer may be pushing it though.
