Main Card fights to make for the winners of UFC 260
Now that the event is over there are several things that need to happen. One of those things is that the fighters need to know what fights are next for them.
Luckily for them, we are here to help. It’s not just about rankings, it’s about exciting matchups too!
Asking for “whoever the UFC wants me to fight” is very much frowned upon as it’s important to call your shot when you have the chance. Here we’re going to lead by example and match up the winners from the main card of UFC 260.
Francis Ngannou vs Derrick Lewis
The predictions for this fight were very simple. Either Ngannou lands the big one that puts Stipe Miocic out early, or Miocic dominates the Cameroonian for five rounds. It ended up being the former as Ngannou put away the Ohio native with a series of powerful punches.
Ngannou essentially has three options: rematch Miocic, rematch Derrick Lewis or fight fresh contender Jon Jones. For this one, we’re going with the rematch that promises to yield a more exciting fight: Derrick Lewis.
Lewis is coming off of a winning streak filled with knockouts and currently holds a win over the new heavyweight champion. The rematch should be more exciting than the first, although that shouldn’t be difficult, and Lewis should be ready to return quicker than Miocic who’s just been knocked out, and Jones, who’s been looking to return closer to the end of the year.
Vicente Luque vs Michael Chiesa
Vicente Luque scored the biggest win of his career when he rocked and submitted former welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley. The win was especially impressive considering no one had ever submitted Woodley before.
Luque is now in a weird position, he’s impressively beaten a former champion but the win doesn’t hold as much weight since this now marks Woodley’s fourth loss in a row. It did, however, show that Luque is ready for a step up in competition.
The fight to book for the Brazilian is a surging contender and former lightweight Michael Chiesa. Chiesa is currently just outside of the top-5 and he’s also looking for a big win that helps him enter the division’s upper echelon.
Sean O’Malley vs Dominick Cruz
The “Suga Show” is back! Sean O’Malley scored the impressive knockout win over Brazilian striker Thomas Almeida and showed that he’s back where he needs to be after a hiccup against Marlon Vera in his last outing.
Now “Suga” is in an exciting position as he either gets a tough veteran to help his ascent up the division or another up-and-coming prospect to help determine where he belongs rankings-wise. In this case, we’re going with the fun veteran matchup that helps his career.
Enter Dominick Cruz. The big-name veteran is an excellent fighter with a well-rounded skill set that will help O’Malley test his skills and provide a star-making opportunity for the Montana native.
Miranda Maverick vs Talia Santos
Miranda Maverick is now on a two-fight win streak in the UFC and has just recorded a big victory over The Ultimate Fighter alum Gillian Robertson. The decision win did not come easy but Maverick got the win and now she’s in a really good spot at flyweight.
Maverick deserves someone ranked and tough enough to help her test her skills as she looks to enter the top-10. Taila Santos is the right opponent for her next outing and she also holds a win over Robertson.
Jamie Mullarky vs Jalin Turner
His next opponent should be someone with a decent name and a similar skill set. He was once set to fight Jalin Turner in February 2020 and that’s the exact fight that should happen next for both men.
