The eighties and early nineties are often seen as the golden era for action cinema, with two of its biggest stars Jean Claude Van Damme and Sylvester Stallone at the peak of their cinematic careers.
Although despite their success and popularity it would not be until 2012 that the action icons would share the same screen let alone fight each other.

In a follow up to the 2010 action hit ‘The Expendables’, the sequel titled ‘The Expendables II’ follows the mercenary group as they undertake a seemingly simple mission which turns into a quest for vengeance against their rival mercenary Jean Vilain played by returning star Jean Claude Van Damme, who murdered one of their crew and threatens the world with a deadly weapon of mass destruction.
Predictably the events of this action film ultimately lead to a showdown between Sly and Van Damme in what is an action film buff’s dream matchup that was over twenty years in the making.
After Jean Vilain depletes his ammunition, he proposes to Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) that they fight like men without any weapons. Eager to avenge the loss of Billy the Kid (played by Liam Hemsworth), Ross takes the bait and obliges to a bloody no holds barred contest with Vilain.
