The main event of UFC 217 featured a middleweight title fight between champion Michael Bisping and former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

In case you forgot, Georges St-Pierre is on the very short list of the greatest mixed martial artists of all-time.

On Saturday night at UFC 217, the former longtime UFC welterweight champion returned to the Octagon for the first time in four years and scored a staggering upset over Michael Bisping to capture the UFC middleweight title.

The time of the submission finish at New York’s Madison Square Garden was 4:23 of the third round as St-Pierre (26-2) became just the fourth fighter in UFC history to hold championships in two different weight classes.

Round 3 – St-Pierre in early on a single-leg and gets the takedown. Bisping resists but settles to full guard. Bisping looks to control the wrists. St-Pierre trying to pass the guard, but Bisping keeping things tight. Punches traded. Bisping frames the face and lands an elbow, cutting St-Pierre. Blood flowing freely, and Bisping finally turns and pushes back to the feet. Right hand lands for Bisping. St-Pierre’s face covered in blood. Bisping looking to take advantage on the feet. St-Pierre managing offense, but he’s certainly slowed a bit. St-Pierre kicks the legs. He land a left hand, and Bisping hits the floor. St-Pierre looking to finish. Bisping is hurt, but he’s battling. Referee John McCarthy watching close. Bisping trying to buy time. He moves back and forth, trying to keep St-Pierre away. Finally, Bisping turns to try and escape. St-Pierre leaps on his back, instantly locking in the choke. He squeezes hard. Bisping won’t give up. The choke is tight, and Bisping goes to sleep. Incredible.
