As a private company, the UFC does not disclose the amount of PPVs sold for an event nor the revenue earned from an event. Media insiders have used various sources to estimate these numbers and early signs are indicating that this past weekend’s UFC 196 may have broken the record for PPV guys in the company’s history:
According to the press release, the event had the highest digital PPV sales of all-time in addition to setting a record with 4.9 million viewers for the UFC’s Embedded series.
During a recent appearance on ESPN Radio’s Max & Marcellus, UFC President Dana White suggested the event sold 1.5 million pay-per-views. While that number wouldn’t top the reported 1.6 million sold for UFC 100, the $5 increase in PPV purchase price that began in January 2015 would make UFC 196 the highest grossing in company history.
Additionally, Dave Meltzer of F4Wonline reported that there were over .5.5 million searches on Google for UFC 196 which is also an indicator of PPV success.
