UFC rankings: Alex Pereira debuts on pound-for-pound list at No. 6, Israel Adesanya slides to No. 4

Following UFC 281 victory, 'Poatan' sits atop middleweight rankings but still trails 'The Last Stylebender' on the pound-for-pound list.

New UFC middleweight champion Alex Pereira (7-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) is now officially among the promotion's top pound-for-pound fighters.

"Poatan" debuted at No. 8 in the latest update of the promotion's pound-for-pound rankings, his first inclusion on the list. He also ascended to the top of the middleweight list as reigning champion following his dramatic UFC 281 win over Israel Adesanya (23-2 MMA, 12-2 UFC) to claim the title while down on the scorecards entering the final frame.

After the setback, Adesanya finds himself as the No. 1 contender at 185 pounds. However, he still remains slightly ahead of Pereira in the pound-for-pound list, sitting at No. 6 in the latest update.

Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker, who was No. 15 on the list entering the week, slides off the latest update to make room for Pereira.

Meanwhile, on the women's pound-for-pound list, new strawweight champ Zhang Weili (23-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC) moved up four slots to No. 3 among the promotion's top fighters, trailing only double champ Amanda Nunes and flyweight titleholder Valentina Shevchenko. Former strawweight titleholder Carla Esparza (19-7 MMA, 10-5 UFC) dropped two spots to No. 6.
