UFC Vegas 49, also known as UFC Fight Night: Makhachev vs. Green, UFC Fight Night 202, UFC on ESPN+ 60, is the 595th event in league history, and will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at the UFC APEX, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Islam Makhachev vs, Bobby Green serves as the main event.
Makhachev intends to push his win streak to ten, and further demonstrate that he is the second coming of his friend and teammate Khabib Nurmagomedov. Green, who replaced original opponent Beneil Dariush on ten day's notice when the latter suffered an ankle injury, is demonstrating a very massive courage. A nine-year veteran of the UFC, Green overcame a rough patch in the big show, when he went 1-5-1, and is now 5-2, on a two-fight win streak, over Al Iaquinta (performance of the night winning Round 1 TKO) and Nasrat Haqparast (a shoutout unanimous decision at UFC 271 just two weeks ago).
The weigh-ins offered some unfortunate drama as Zhu Rong missed the non-title lightweight cutoff of 156 by four pounds. The fight will go on at a 160 catchweight, and Rong was fined 40% of purse, all of which will go to opponent Ignacio Bahamondes.
