When it comes combat sports there is a plethora of information out there as the term encompasses a variety of aspects including every martial art, mixed martial arts, competitions, self-defense and even street fighting. One thing is for certain and that is it is definitely beneficial to some sort of martial arts training even if only for self-defense.
Most martial arts contested are completed under an agreed upon set of rules and regulations and there may or may not be sanctioning bodies or commissions involved. A staple in modern martial arts contested has become the variety of weight divisions.
This is a technique employed for various reasons including but not limited to safety and a level playing field…but this isn’t always the case. Every once in a while you may find yourself in a situation where you have to fight a much larger opponent.
So what is the best way to deal with fighting a fat guy? There are quite a few techniques and one can employ and in the video below we take a look some of these techniques as well as discuss a little bit of strategy.
One has to remember that although it appears right away that you at a distinct disadvantage there are some attributes that you can use to your advantage.
For instance, and there always exceptions, but for the most part the smaller combatant will have a speed advantage and can use that to stay out of the more powerful opponent’s range. A lot of times there will also be a cardio advantage for the smaller less muscled fighter.
