The Conor McGregor leg injury recovery process, from broken bones suffered at UFC 264, looks to be going better than expected.
In a Thursday post on his Instagram stories, the former two-division champion gave a rapid reaction update to his 42 million followers after just leaving the doctor’s office to get an update on how the fractures in his left leg are healing. And it seems that the 33-year-old’s limb is mending quicker than expected.
Conor McGregor leg injury update good on his broken leg
Scan went well. Scan went very well. To be back on the bike, I’m back on the bike before he said I was going to be able to bear weight. I’m rocking [and] well ahead of schedule. Let’s keep it going. … It was good news. Good news at the doc’s, McGregor said [h /t MMAJunkie]
McGregor fractured his leg during his trilogy bout with top lightweight contender Dustin Poirier in July. The injury came at the end of the first round after the Irishman threw a low-kick and lost all stability in the lower part of his limb when he tried to plant his foot back on the mat. The fight was stopped in between rounds, and a technical knockout was awarded to Poirier.
Chris Weidman’s difficult recovery has been on McGregor’s mind
The injury was similar to one suffered by former middleweight champion Chris Weidman several months before. Unfortunately, for Weidman, his recovery since that night has been problematic and his leg required another surgery recently to correct some issues with an unsuccessful healing process. In an Instagram story post before his Thursday doctor visit, McGregor spoke about how Weidman’s recent troubles have been on his mind when it came to his own recovery.
I’m being careful with it, McGregor said. I’m listening to what the doctors are saying. Everything else, I can’t physically do, I’m not pushing it too far after seeing what happened to Weidman recently. It’s in the back of my head that I go in there and maybe they say, ‘Oh, it’s not connected again. You have to go through this again.’ Look what happened to Weidman. I don’t think that’s the case with me. I know that’s not the case with me. I am a little bit nervous.
McGregor is not expected to return to the Octagon until 2022. However, soon after the good news from the doctor, “Notorious” posted a video to his account back in the gym and looking to get back to action as quickly and safely as possible.

McGregor (22-6) is in the midst of his first losing streak in MMA after back-to-back losses to Poirier. He has lost three of his last four in the Octagon, with the lone victory against Donald Cerrone in January of 2020.
