The former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Cain Velasquez is best known for his near limitless cardio, incredible wrestling pedigree and ferocious power.
But when he came out looking rather sluggish and exhausted against now current title holder Fabricio Werdum, critics were quick to point out it was the altitude that played a factor in his performance thus coining the term ‘Sea level Cain’ for when he is in peak physical performance.

So what makes Cain such a cardio vascular machine, what is Sea Level Cain exactly? Well prior to his bout against Brock Lesnar, he appeared on ESPN’s Sports Science where he got his cardio put up to examination as well as his striking power and take down ability.
First Cain was subjected to a treadmill test, with the team measuring his heart rate, which reached a maximum of 167 BPM which is very low and his anaerobic threshold comparable of other endurance athletes.
Next they had a heavy bag rigged up with a wireless accelerometer to measure the power of Cain’s left hooks, which clocked in an all-time high 2230lb of force, one of highest recorded strike in the Sports Science Lab, comparably of previous pro boxers on the show.
The final test was going to measure the power of Cain’s takedowns. A former NJCAA wrestling champion, he has taken every single one of his opponents inside the Octagon and possesses a devastating top game.
With a rigged dummy standing in, Cain executed a double leg takedown which clocked in a whopping 2700 lbs of force.
