Butterbean, named Eric Esch, is a professional journeyman boxer who has also competed in kickboxing, pro wrestling and mixed martial arts. He is actually one of the very few pro level boxers who actually found some success in the MMA world. Butterbean has a solid MMA record of 17-10 which include a couple wins over tough fighters such as James Thompson and Cabbage Correira.

In the following video we see Butterbean fight a radio show host who insulted him on the air prior to this event and the entire thing snowballed from there.

The basic backstory is when Butterbean was a guest on the Cleveland based radio show ‘Rover’s Morning Glory’, the guy who Bean ended up fighting called him a fat slob on air and it escalated from there, finally resulting in a boxing match challenge.

The mouthy radio guy, Dieter is his name, ended up training in boxing prior to this fight but had no other training or competition under his belt other than that. It ended up being a pretty big event, billed as ‘War on the Shore’ this pro vs joe fight brought in an estimated 12,000 people to downtown Cleveland – that’s more than a lot of UFC cards.

Once the fight begins it becomes really clear just how much bigger Butterbean is compared to his opponent – and much more skilled as well. Butterbean is clearly just taking his time early on. His hands are down too showing he has no respect for his opponent’s ability. As the commentators make note of, Butterbean is just toying with his opponent here, while Dieter is literally just trying to survive.

Eventually Butterbean lets his opponent just tee off on his face which literally has no effect on the big man. He then responds with a powerful flurry of his own that drops his over matched foe to the canvas.

Surprisingly enough, though Dieter gets dropped a number of times, he makes it to the end. Though afterwards it is reported he suffered a broken rib for his troubles.
