Chuck Norris is an actor and martial artist as well as philanthropist and devout Christian. He is one of the good guys and an excellent example of what you can accomplish with martial arts.

In the following footage from 1966, we see Norris himself actually compete in a real-life karate championship match against opponent Allen Steen. Steen was no joke either and has a lengthy background in the martial arts world, including a 10th-degree black belt in taekwondo under Jhoon Rhee, the Father of American Taekwondo.

The video below is the final match of Ed Parker’s Long Beach International Karate Championships, the dominant tournament back in the day. Some of the names who competed in the tournament include Joe Lewis, Bill ‘Superfoot’ Wallace, Benny ‘The Jet’ Urquidez, and Billy Blanks. It is also where Bruce Lee was first introduced to the martial arts community.

Though the footage isn’t the best quality (they didn’t have HD in 1966) you can still tell what’s going on. It is a pretty even point match, before goes into sudden death at the end as the score was tied.

In the end, Allen Steen ends up catching Chuck with a swift high kick that wins him the match. Though Chuck Norris didn’t win this one, he won the vast majority of his matches as his final karate record is 183 wins, 10 losses, and 2 draws.
