Round 1 – Crowd chanting Miocic’s name as this fight begins. Electric atmosphere. Overeem circles on the outside, changing stances and keeping his hands high. Miocic looking to push forward and close the distance. He rushes with punches, but Overeem avoids. Overeem turns his back to reset, and the crowd boos. Overeem with a kick to the body. He’s trapped against the cage. He rests again and delivers a huge shot that sends Miocic to the floor. Overeem rushes in and grabs the neck and falls back to the guillotine. Miocic somehow survives the choke, rolls and gets to this feet, and Overeem scampers away to reset. Tense moments. Miocic still moving forward and throwing heavy hands. He misses one, t another lands. Overeem wobbles a bit against the cage. Overeem trying to crazy space, but Miocic hits him again. Overeem looks dazed, but he remains upright. Now Overeem lands flush. Uppercut scores. Back and forth we go. Just under two minutes. Amazing start. Overeem backs to the cage and then turns to reset. Left hand lands for Overeem. He kicks the body. Overeem covers up as Miocic flurries. Big action from the big men. Miocic picks the leg in a scramble and is able to get to top position. He starts pounding away. Overeem covers up, but the punches are coming in flush. Overeem goes out. This fight is over. Incredible.
