Dan Hooker vs Islam Makhachev has been added to UFC 267 and popular UFC bantamweight Sean O’Malley now has an opponent for his return to the Octagon.

On Thursday, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto [h/t BJPenn] reported that Hooker would make a quick turnaround and step in to face fifth-ranked lightweight Islam Makhachev at UFC 267 on Oct. 30. The New Zealander will be serving as a replacement for the Russian’s originally scheduled opponent Rafael dos Anjos.

Dan Hooker vs Islam Makhachev booked for UFC 267

A knee injury in training forced the Brazilian to have emergency surgery in the hopes of still being able to make the bout at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Hooker’s addition to the card confirm’s the 36-year-old was unable to make the date.

Hooker (21-10) — who jumped past dos Anjos in the rankings this week — just fought on Saturday at UFC 266. Inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. “The Hangman” put forth a strong showing in his unanimous decision win over unranked Nasrat Haqparast and ended a two-fight losing streak in the process. He’ll remain in the US to train for the matchup. Marking his first fight camp outside his native New Zealand.

Makhachev (20-1), is on an eight-fight winning streak and earned a submission win over Thiago Moises in July. The bout was the Khabib Nurmagomedov protege’s first main event opportunity in the UFC.

Sean O’Malley vs Raulian Paiva added to UFC 269

In other fight news, O’Malley (14-1), the popular multi-color-haired super prospect in the UFC’s bantamweight division, has an opponent and date set for his return to the Octagon.

The 26-year-old will compete at UFC 269 on Dec. 11 against former flyweight Raulian Paiva. The “in the works” booking was also reported by Okamoto on Thursday.

The 23-year-old Paiva (21-3) jumped into the bantamweight rankings on the back of an upset win over highly-touted prospect Kyler Phillips in July. The win was his third straight in the Octagon and first as a 135-pound fighter in the UFC. The Dana White’s Contender Series contract winner is 3-2 in the promotion.

O’Malley — also a DWCS alum — last fought a couple a few weeks before his next opponent at UFC 264. At the event, he put up record offensive numbers in his win over UFC newcomer Kris Moutinho.

“Sugar” was reportedly offered a bout with bantamweight contender Frankie Edgar for the promotion’s UFC 268 card in New York, however, O’Malley turned down the fight with the former lightweight champion because of his disinterest in competing in the state and on the date in November.

UFC 269 is expected to be headlined by a lightweight title bout between champion Charles Oliveira and top contender Dustin Poirier.
